According to the King IV report on corporate citizenship, “Organisations operate in a societal context which they affect and by which they are affected.
This idea of interdependence between organisations and society is supported by the Ubuntu concept – I am because you are; you are because we are.
As a logical consequence of this interdependence, one person benefits by serving another.
HOW DOES BUSINESS BENEFIT FROM GIVING?
These CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) initiatives are as a result, no longer just a nice- to-have. They have become a critical part of company integrity and brand strategy.
“A business wrapped up in itself makes a very small package”
In line with Start Entrepreneuring’s concept of golf and business, you eventually drop the ball if you only collect and don’t start playing the game with purpose. Inflow without purpose driven outflow stifles growth. It keeps you so focussed on collecting, holding and balancing every ball, that you eventually lose track of why the company exist and the community you serve.
There is, however, more to giving than mere “let’s get it over and done with”.
One of the reasons business should exist is to make a difference, both in uplifting communities but also becoming part of the community. Giving is at the heart of purpose – the value of impacting.
WHY SHOULD BUSINESS BE GENEROUS?
Businesses exist for the mandated purpose of making a difference and help support the needs of others who are unable to do so for themselves. Choosing where you give, and being aware of the attitude with which you give is important.
“This service that you perform is not only supplying the Lord’s people, but also overflowing in many expressions of thanks to God” (2 Corinthians 9:12)
While there are many to choose from, we have partnered with the following SARS approved charities with which businesses can take hands.
KCCA (or the Krugersdorp Council for the Care of the Aged) provide an environment in which the elderly may enjoy a social life outside of the confines of their retirement rooms and homes.
Believing in compassionate and comprehensive support for the elderly, they extend care to the elderly, ensuring they receive the respect and support they deserve. Their Service Centre provide comfort and companionship, enhancing the quality of life for our elderly. They also offer home support services, creating a strong support network for their registered members at KCCA and catering for the basic needs of the elderly concerning nutrition, healthcare, as well as social, spiritual and intellectual well-being.
They provide daily nutritious lunches to SASSA pensioners throughout the week at an excessively low price, allowing them to feel dignified. Take-aways and soup are available. Morning tea and sandwiches are served and Meals-on-Wheels are delivered to frail and housebound elderly persons. To make it easy, they provide a free transport service to elderly people who do not have transport or are unable to drive.

To simply say they oversee several community upliftment and humanitarian programs; or that their objective is to empower disadvantaged communities through developing employment opportunities and helping to alleviate hunger, is perhaps a fact.
But facts don’t describe the gentle care and love with which Wayne or Debbie talk and work with every individual that enters through their doors, giving them new hope and purpose as they teach them skills to help them to sustainably take care of themselves. All this while helping them find new Values conducive to understanding their purpose and identity.
Operating from a multifunctional upliftment center, based in Krugersdorp West, DIA functions as a skills development/ upliftment center, a paralegal office and soup kitchen for children. The Harvest kitchen is currently feeding 120-160 children daily.
“We realise the importance of taking hands with Government and the Private Sector, your goodwill in helping disadvantage communities, orphans, widows, and the poor will greatly be appreciated”.
