A business existing purely for itself and the benefit for its owners, makes a very small parcel, limiting its own growth and expansion.
It is true that most businesses are established as a platform through which an idea or concept can be nurtured and marketed to a wider public with the purpose of profit. If this, however, is the only reason business exist, it becomes a recipe for limitation and ultimately implosion.
Bringing this back to the Start Entrepreneuring concept of business, golf courses consist of a whole ecosystem beyond the fairway and ultimate goal of sinking the ball. If this wasn’t true, they would be nothing more than a contained mini golf entertainment center, where risks are limited and every little part of the course is hedged in to prevent the ball from leaving the safety of its enclosure.
This is the exact mindset that cause small business owners to do business within the confines of their comfort zone and ultimately results in them prematurely giving up.
The purpose businesses exist, and the value impact for which they are mandated, extends far beyond the borders of our imaginations.
Business ideas are God-given and entrepreneurs who truly act on this idea to turn it into a business, accepts the responsibility and mandate to make a difference for the benefit of the greater community.
Think of the four rivers that flowed through the Garden of Eden. In line with the general purpose of a river, each of the rivers watered the garden, but didn’t stop at the edge of the garden. As they flowed from Eden, they separated into four directions, from where they had different purposes. Their ultimate purpose is contained in the meaning of their name.
The name of the first is the Pishon; it winds through the entire land of Havilah, where there is gold. (The gold of the land is good; aromatic resin and onyx are also there.)
The name Pishon is probably connected with the Hebrew root which means “scatter, press on, excel, break loose, be plenteous or spring forward.”
In the Biblical context of Genesis we read that God instructed Adam to increase in numbers. The Hebrew word for increase means to enlarge, excel, to exceed or multiply.
Multiplication is a law that governs life throughout the universe. Everything that God touches multiplies in numbers.
God created us with the potential to multiply what we are trusted with, including the business that stemmed from the idea that He planted in us. He expects us to multiply what we receive and richly rewards those who do.
We need to learn the skill of multiplying what we produce to create sustainable streams of income. There is a power within us to produce and multiply ourselves out of almost any predicament. Multiple sustainable streams of income can be established.
By increasing and accelerating, we can flow with the river towards the land of Havilah where the gold is good, and opportunities are plenty. Some existing streams of income need to be unblocked, while new ones need to be unlocked.
The name of the second river Gihon is thought to derive from the Hebrew word which means "gushing forth". It winds through the entire land of Cush.
God instructed Adam to be fruitful because every living being holds power to produce. Every person has been created with the power and ability to produce – to bring forth, co-create, innovate, contribute or generate.
The blessing on Adam was qualified by the command to produce. God cannot bless laziness or unproductivity.
Our world consists of producers and consumers. Producers can be likened to ants who are diligent to store up wealth. Consumers can be likened to locusts who destroy and consume everything.
We must consume to stay alive, but we get deceived when we start living to consume. Once we attach our value to what we consume, we are in bondage. The fall of man was caused by consuming not producing.
The third river Tigris runs along the east side of Ashur. The name comes from an Old Persian word that can be translated as "fast" or "arrow-like". This is a fast-flowing river.
This river flows rapidly, suddenly and quickly. This speaks to an accelerated flow of Gods blessings to fulfill His set purposes. Those who set their hearts and minds on fulfilling God’s purposes often witness massive acceleration of provision.
A lack of purpose generally causes a leaking of our resources. If our vision isn’t clear about our purpose, we tend to live without restraint.
We spend lots of money but build little wealth and consequently struggle to finance our life purpose. Once we own our responsibility in the Kingdom, we gain the ability to steward resources to fund our purpose. Owning and stewarding our responsibility attracts the flow of God’s blessings.
Our alignment to His assignment releases the flow of His providing. Provisions flow quicker if we step closer to His purpose.
The name of the fourth river, Euphrates means fruitfulness, sweet fragrance, or to break forth. It is believed that this river flows from the mountains down the slopes to the valleys below and deposited fertile soil along the banks. This turned the barren lands into places of abundant fruitfulness.
God instructed Adam to fill the earth. This Hebrew term is translated as accomplish, fulfill, occupy or concentrate.
We are instructed to fulfill and occupy the world entrusted to us. God blessed Adam with work in the Garden of Eden. Our work should become a place to worship unto His glory. He needs us to fulfill and occupy the space assigned to us with our occupation be a glory to Him.
As the fruits of God’s kingdom starts to break forth in our business, it will spread a sweet fragrance to our surroundings. We can be fruitful in the new ground with the fertile soil that was washed down the mountain.
In the same way our businesses exist to multiply, moving forward to constantly produce and innovate, stewarding what God has given us to not only benefit ourselves. Businesses should plan and aim for growth to uplift and make a difference in the greater community in which they operate.
